Hi, I’m Debbie Schulze - wife, mom, grammie, (retired) physical therapist, quilt maker and longarm quilter. I started making quilts in 2012. I bought my first longarm machine almost immediately. Four longarms later, I’ve quilted over 800 quilts – all freehand.
Historically speaking, I’ve had a handful of recognitions for my work:
2014 Arlington Quilt Guild Show - 1st Place - Taos Magic
2014 Taos County Fair - 1st Place - Taos Magic
2015 Taos County Fair - 1st Place, Best of Show - Midnight Run
2016 Taos County Fair - 1st Place - Feathered Moss
2017 Taos County Fair - 1st Place, Best of Show - Goodness Gracious
2017 World Quilt New England - Juried In - Feathered Moss
2017 Houston International Quilt Show - Juried In - My Inner Yogi
2018 Dallas Quilt Show - HM (longarm award) - quilt by Jenn Haxton
2018 Santa Fe Fiesta - HM - My Inner Yogi
2020 Santa Fe Fiesta - HM - Point Taken
2021 QuiltCon - Juried In - White Sands
2022 Taos Art Council Lampost Banner Competion: A Silent View
2022 Sacred Threads - Juried In - Hands of Time
2023 Taos Art Council Lampost Banner Competition: What is Happening??
I own an Innova Longarm Machine and take customer requests where I quilt in Taos, NM. I don’t have computerized programming on my machine. All my work is freehand. My turnaround is usually 2-4 weeks. I provide return shipping costs on any quilts that are sent to me, and on all commissioned quilts.
I love quilting and everything about it – fabric hunting, cutting, piecing, fusing, ripping, re-piecing, paper piecing, ironing, design walls, quilting, binding…it’s calming, exciting, expensive, frustrating, rewarding, cheap therapy, and the ultimate lesson in patience.
I look forward to providing you with professional longarm quilting, or creating a custom quilt. Many of my smaller pieces are available at Las Comadres Art Gallery in Taos, a co-op run by 8 local female artists.
